John White, Sr., affectionately known as "Big John", founded White Armature Works, Inc. in the basement of his home in 1952. Evenings often found him rewinding armatures, with his wife, Barbara Jean, sitting beside him, sharing in both the work and the stories of the day. As the business grew, White Armature Works built a reputation for high-quality electric motor repair, becoming a trusted partner for the Appalachian coal mines and industrial operations across the region.

A devoted husband and father to John White II and Elizabeth White Songer, Big John was more than a successful businessman—he was a leader, mentor, and community pillar. His leadership was recognized by many organizations, both in and beyond the electric motor industry. He served as Past President of the WV Chapter of EASA, was inducted into the Man High School Hall of Fame, and played a key role as President of the Trustee Board of Bruce-McDonald United Methodist Church. A passionate supporter of Virginia Tech, Marshall University, and West Virginia University, he left a lasting impact through his generosity and dedication.

On August 15, 2007, Big John left this world for his Heavenly Home, but his legacy remains strong. His dedication to family, business, and community continues to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Among the many things he cherished most were his 53-year marriage to Barbara Jean and his love for fishing with his grandchildren.
